8 Days Kenya Wildebeest Safari is an exceptional 7 night and 8-day itinerary. It perfectly introduces you to Kenya’s premier wildlife safari destination – Masai Mara National Reserve, home to not only the big 5 game but also abundant wildebeest plus other mammal species.
This unforgettable wildebeest safari takes you to witness the world’s spectacle –the wildebeest migration experience in the vast savannas of Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. During the actual wildebeest migration, over 1.5 million wildebeest embark on a journey to search for pasture and water.
The wildebeests are usually accompanied by thousands of other mammals like zebras, and Thompson gazelles. This safari package allows you explore in depth about the annual migration and also the entire Maasai Mara ecosystem. The annual migration often occurs around July to October and annual breeding season falls around December to February. The significant highlight of the migration is the river crossing where a huge concentration of wildebeest cross the Mara River amidst crocodiles.
Maasai Mara Reserve lies along the Southwestern part of Kenya and expands up to 1510sq.km. This reserve is a rich ecosystem, protecting not just wildebeest but also several big cats plus other mammals like zebras, giraffes, and more.
Day by Day Program
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to the hotel in Nairobi Capital
Upon arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will meet and greet one of our company representative. After the warm welcome to the Magical Kenya, board your classic rental car for transfer to the hotel that our reservation team pre-booked for you.
At the hotel, have a relaxed evening and you will enjoy your dinner plus other refreshments at leisure. Also, make the best of today’s evening to organize everything you require the next day.
Day 2: Transfer from Nairobi capital city to Masai Mara Reserve
Today, expect to wake up early to organize yourself and also take a delicious cup of tea/coffee at the comfort of your hotel. At around 8:00am, your experienced Kenya safari guide will be present to pick you up at the hotel but first, you will have a short briefing.
Later, begin your road trip to Maasai Mara which is found in Narok County, Southwestern Kenya close to border with Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. Your journey from Nairobi city to the Mara Reserve will run for about 5-6 hours.
En-route to Maasai Mara Reserve, expect to enjoy the spectacular landscape of the country characterized by stunning rift valley. You continue up to the Maasai Mara Reserve where you will check in at the pre-booked lodge. Have a leisurely moment at the lodge awaiting the next day’s experiences in the spectacular Maasai Mara Reserve.
Day 3: Full day guided game drive through the savannas of Maasai Mara
Enjoy a hefty breakfast and after, you will board your 4×4 safari vehicle ready to go for a full day guided game drive. This will be combining the morning and afternoon game drives and you will be with an experienced guide.
Variety of wildlife in Maasai Mara Reserve will be spotted today including small and large mammals. For keen game viewers, you will sight some of the big 5 game members, wildebeest, gazelles, zebras, Maasai giraffes and a lot more.
The long day game drive includes a picnic lunch and you will return to the lodge for a leisurely dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Full day game drives in Maasai Mara Reserve with a guide
A hefty cup of tea/coffee be enjoyed at the lodge and after, meet the driver guide for another sensational game viewing excursion. Look out for more wildlife in Maasai Mara Reserve including wildebeest –watch them move with company of several other mammals like zebras and gazelles.
Day 5: Explore Masai Mara Reserve with an expert
After breakfast, set off for a combined morning and afternoon game drive. Today, you will leave with some pack of picnic lunch to be enjoyed in the wild. Your long day wildlife excursion will enrich you with incredible sights of Maasai Mara Reserve’s diverse species. Keep a close eye on the wildebeest, the big 5 game, big cats, and variety of antelope families.
Day 6: Full day game viewing (hot air balloon & game drive)
Leave your lodge early to catch up with your sunrise hot balloon excursion. This excursion includes bush breakfast while you enjoy aerial view of diverse wildlife from wildebeest, big game and other species.
After the hot air balloon, get back and relax at the lodge. In the afternoon, enjoy the best of game viewing experience through Maasai Mara Reserve.
Day 7: Mara River wildebeest crossing
Depart from the lodge for an exhilarating game drive combined with the great migration experience. Today’s focus will be the Mara River wildebeest crossing. Today’s journey offers you a lifetime opportunity to watch several wildebeest and other mammals as they cross the Mara River, one of the rivers with a huge concentration of massive Nile crocodiles.
After the today’s wildlife highlight, return and you will have great time at the comfort of your lodge.
Day 8: Departure
Enjoy a leisurely cup of tea/coffee in the lodge and later, check out. After, begin your journey back to Nairobi city about 6 hours’ drive and on arrival, be dropped off at the hotel or direct to the airport for you to depart back home.
