Overview
3 days safari will start and end from Kigali city at the agreed location and goes through Bukavu Town which is nearest town to the Kahuzi-Biega National Park. The safari will lead you to great African primates like various types of monkeys and lowland gorillas.
Have a chance of interacting with the local people by visiting the community or enjoy a nature walk in Kahuzi-Biega National Park where will be able to spot different beautiful bird species, butterflies, different tree species and many more.
If time grants depending upon your itinerary also visit the Kigali genocide museum to understand more about Rwanda’s history, enjoy the rolling and beautiful hills of Rwanda and visit the craft shop to buy souvenirs to take home for remembrance. Your safari driver guide will pick and drop you off at the agreed location at start and the end of the safari respectively.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1. Arrival at the airport Kigali and transfer to Bukavu city
On your day 1 of the safari our professional driver guide will pick you up from the agreed location. He will brief you about the safari then after set off for the journey to Bukavu which is the nearest town to Kahuzi-Biega National Park.
Before getting there, you will pass through beautiful sceneries of Rwanda. Since you pass through Nyungwe forest National Park you have high chances of spotting primates as you drive a long side the road. Proceed with the journey as you use Cyangugu border and continue to check in with the booked hotel in Bukavu town.
Day 2. Lowland Gorilla trekking in Kahuzi-Biega National Park
Arise as early in the morning as possible grab your cup of tea or coffee for the breakfast depending on your choice, after, jump into the safari car and drive heading to Kahuzi-Biega National Park for registration and briefing from the park ranger guide. They will lead you into the jungle in such for these amazing lowland gorillas.
The walk will take you 1-6 hours depending on where the gorilla family is located, and one hour to be spent in their presence while taking photos, learning their social behaviors as interpreted by the ranger guide; watch how they play and other behaviors which are very interesting and enjoyable.
Then finally one hour descending to the starting point to meet your safari driver guide to drive back to the lodge. Apart from the gorillas, during trekking you may also come across other primates like monkeys, baboons and animals like duikers, beautiful birds and forest elephants.
In the evening after delicious lunch from the lodge you can opt to visit the community for another wonderful experience or waterfalls walk around Kahuzi-Biega National Park. After drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3. Departure.
Enjoy your breakfast early morning accompanied with a cup of coffee or tea depending on your choice then after embark on your journey to Kigali Rwanda. Depending on the flight time you can opt to visit Kigali Genocide Museum and learn Rwanda’s history as guided by your guide or visit any craft shop and buy some souvenirs to take home for remembrance.
Be dropped off at the agreed location again by your safari driver guide and mark it the end of your 3 days Congo Lowland Gorilla trekking safari.
