Overview
Chimpanzees are a few most unusual primates that make Kibale National Park and Uganda as a whole the preferred primate safari destination. Exploring more about chimps while in their natural habitat is possible during chimpanzee tracking or on chimpanzee habituation adventure.
Our 3 days chimp habituation Kibale National Park takes you deep into the tropical rainforest where you will have an in-depth exploration of chimp behaviors. You will be following a semi-habituated chimpanzee community as you observe their different behaviors right from the time they get up to start their long day. Learn more about their feeding habits, mating habits, and also take pictures of chimpanzees.
Chimp habituation is a process of making chimp communities to get used to the presence of humans. The entire process takes about 2 years and before chimpanzees are officially opened for tracking, daily monitoring of these apes’ behaviors is done by a group of park trackers and researchers. The day with these primates ends when they build new nests for them to retire for a night.
Kibale National Park is East Africa’s leading primate destination, a special destination where all 13 primate species live. The park lies at elevation range of 1160 and 2607m, and aside from chimpanzees, it protects other primates such as bush babies, vervet monkeys, vervet monkeys, Uganda mangabeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and pottos, etc.
More than 375 species of birds also survive within this park alone including Chubb’s cisticolas, African pied wagtail, blue breasted kingfishers, Cameroon sombre greenbul, Abyssinian ground thrush, yellow rumped tinker bird, blue headed bee-eaters and more.
